I am not a blogger, this will be the very first article I would like to share. The idea of writing this blog is to share my feelings through bottom of my heart. Wish we could do something to change the life of human being living in the environment which we can’t imagine, it is part of independent India after almost seventy years of independence.
I live in USA, this time got an opportunity to celebrate EID at Darbhanga with loved ones after almost a decade.

I was on morning walk and passing by historical Millat college. The area seems to be crowded most of the construction were new. Upon talking to few peoples, came to know, most of them work in gulf and moved from nearby villages. They live here to avail better facilities of education and healthcare. My morning walk continued and when I looked towards the other side of the road for a while I gone down the memory lanes. It seems there was a flashback and time moved backward, when I was in school, and use to pass this area while going to the private tuition about thirty years ago. There were small tents/ slums could see few kids playing in a complete filthy environment. I could hardly stand and resist the bad smell. The encouraging part to stay there was the realization of the fact that the people in this area living here in ghettos, so why can’t I spend some more to know little more about them.
Talked to a local person who was born here and spent forty years in this environment. I could summarize the facts collected based on my conversation with the locals.
- The place in complete ghetto is known as Murgiya Chawk right next to historical Millat college. (Not sure if Murgia Chawk is the official name)
- About twenty to twenty five families live here from more than forty years. Person whom I talked to was about forty years old and told me that he was born here. Upon asking where his father moved from, he couln’t recollect saying ‘WOH BHE YAHEN RAHTE THEE’…..( *He also lived here)
- Most of the people either work as hawker or rickshaw puller.
- There is lack of basic education, upon asking what is highest level of education in their family they said grade 1 or 2 meaning not even completed primary education.
- Their kids go to nearby government school, but drops out soon due to lack of basic infrastructure and proverty.
- All the families living here had ADHAR Card (Similar to SSN # in USA ) and Ration card as informed by locals.
- There is no place in Darbhanga town similar to Murgiya Chawk where people live in complete ghetto.
- Murgiya Chawk residents are no less Indians than us.
It is hard to believe life of human being living under these circumstances. We got independence almost seventy years ago, but it seems it made no difference to the life of Murgiya Chawk residents. The government schemes has hardly reached to them in true sense, and looking at their sufferings it seems they are devoid of most of the government benefits. Question comes to my mind who should be accountable, in this 21st century, can one leader representing this community come forward. We all know if we get into analyzing the root cause from political aspects, the debate will never end and the blame game will continue. If this topic is covered by a TV channel, for debate among political parties, it would be very interesting to watch in a drawing room and our experience says finger pointing and blame game will be nicely framed by political party representatives to defend and counter attack the opponent leaders. They are honest and loyal to their party and the responsibilities assigned to them to perform the job as political leader. Let’s think from other perspective, the spokesman of the party is missing the core stakeholder in this political establishment THE PUBLIC who is kingmaker and made the political party a ruling party. It will be hard to find a political leader who will take THE PUBLIC interest as the prime responsibility and continue the debate to hold accountable the law makers, government executives or any other related officials responsible to cause hindrance in SAB KA SATH SAB KA VIKAS.( *DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL WITH EVERY ONE INCLUDED) It seems the true independence of the independent India celebrations was not been joined by resident of murgiya chawk. Respecting everyone’s opinion I beg to differ and note the following.
- There is hardly any change in life for Murgiya Chawk residents in last fourty years.
- They lack basic amenities.
- Education is almost NIL.
- Live in complete ghettos.
- Own ration card, adhar card etc and no one challenge that these peoples are less Indians than others.
Appealing to the lawmakers when the PUBLIC votes you in power per our political process in oath ceremony you swear by God to work for public interest. It raised a suspicion in my mind what was done to implement or execute some of the projects that we heard recently listing down a few of them.
- Indira awas yojna
- Jan dhan yojna
- Gramin Vikas yojna
- Sakharta abhiyan etc…
The change will reflect and we could see the implementation out-come on the ground. We can get information to know the details on the project implementation/execution part using RTI. I am sure we may not find any ambiguity there, as we all know we do the documentation with perfection so on paper all the public schemes will show as implemented with zero audit finding.
Listing down the public representatives of this area
MLA : Sanjay sarawgi
MP : Kirti Azad
Ward Counciler: Fujail Ahmad Ansari
Got an opportunity to speak to a senior journalist from reputed news channel to discuss about the plight of Murgiya Chawk. Being a big fan, I could hardly believe that I am talking a star journalist. The response from the honorable journalist was disappointing and I was told SABKO APNE LARAYE KHUD HE LARNE PAREGE. ( *EVER ONE WILL HAVE TO FIGHT FOR THEIR OWN RIGHTS )
Not sure if the residents of Murgiya Chawk know their basic rights…as they fight to earn their lively hood and feed their starving children and family.
Urge the community leaders, NGO’s to come forward and help Murgiya Chawk residents to fight for their plights. They do deserve to taste the freedom after seventy years of independence.
